There are 4 new cases of Covid-19 in Portimão, Albufeira and Silves

There are not 3, but at least 4 new cases in the Algarve region

The four new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Algarve are from people from the municipalities of Silves (it is the first confirmed situation in this municipality), Portimão and Albufeira, according to Sul Informação from official sources.

In Silves, according to what our newspaper found, this is a woman who has become infected following a recent trip abroad. It has not yet been possible to ascertain neither the age nor the location where the woman lives, nor even the country to which she had traveled. It is known, however, that she is not a teacher.

The new case thus constitutes another chain of transmission, of the 14 that are active throughout the country, according to the latest bulletin on the epidemiological situation of the Directorate-General for Health, released this morning.

As for Portimão, the president of the Chamber revealed to the Sul Informação that he is another teacher at the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School, where the first case of the municipality and the Algarve emerged. That is, it is not a new transmission chain.

In total, Portimão now has 5 confirmed cases of being infected with the new coronavirus: 16-year-old high school student Manuel Teixeira Gomes, her mother and father, as well as another 17-year-old teenager, her mother's student at the School José Buisel, and now this teacher, his mother's colleague in Secondary School.

In Albufeira, there are two new cases. One of them is that of a health professional in a clinic in the municipality. Our newspaper was unable to find out if this is someone related to the first Canadian tourist infected in Albufeira, who, as we reported, he started precisely because he was treated at a private health unit in that county., before being admitted to the hospital of Faro.

On the other hand, the official source contacted said that there is a third case of Covid-19 in Albufeira, of another Canadian tourist, a woman in her 80s, with no connection with the first infected Canadian.

This case will have been registered in the DGS bulletin, but as one of the “5 foreigners” mentioned there. In other words, in reality there are at least 4 new cases of those infected with the new coronavirus in the Algarve, including foreigners.

O South Informationo has already asked the Directorate-General of Health for clarification on this situation.
