The HPA Saúde Group guarantees that its Private Hospital in Gambelas "followed the protocol" when sending it to the Hospital de Faro a Canadian tourist with strong symptoms of being infected with the new coronavirus.
The man, who has been in intensive care at the Hospital of Faro com Covid-19, went to units of the HPA Saúde Group and it was these units that alerted the health authorities to the existence of a probable case of this disease.
This Canadian tourist, aged around 60, was the sixth confirmed case of Covid-19 in the Algarve, announced in this morning's bulletin, such as the Sul Informação did it work and has already confirmed with the General Directorate of Health.
Today, in a clarification note sent to the Sul Informação, the HPA Saúde Group admits that the man in question was «effectively treated in one of our clinics and, due to the symptoms presented, was immediately sent to our hospital unit in Faro, the Private Hospital of Gambelas».
"There, all the necessary information was collected again and tests were carried out that diagnosed bilateral interstitial pneumonia, which strongly pointed to a possible infection by Covid-19".
At that time, and also according to the statement from the HPA Saúde Group, «the permanent care professionals at the HPA Gambelas followed the protocol of the General Directorate of Health, connecting to the doctor's helpline and to the Health line 24, respecting all the guidelines that they were instructed', that is, 'to wait for transport from INEM and refer the patient to the reference hospital in the Algarve: the Hospital de Faro of the CHUA'. This is where the tourist has been hospitalized, since yesterday.
As for the health professionals who dealt with men, they were quarantined. "The fourteen employees who contacted the patient are in isolation, according to the guidelines of the health delegate, and they also carried out the necessary analyzes to screen for contagion, awaiting the results", explained the HPA Saúde Group, in response to questions asked by our newspaper.

The HPA Saúde Group concludes its clarification by stressing that “all its professionals are committed to collaborating in the national effort to contain the pandemic, adopting and respecting all safety and protection measures for its control”.
As for this 6th confirmed case of Covid-19 in the Algarve, although, at first, it has been advanced that the man in question was the "foreigner" who already appeared in yesterday morning's bulletin, a source from the DGS told our newspaper today that this designation refers to a man who “is admitted to a hospital in the north of the country”. The Canadian tourist counts as an infected patient in the Algarve.
