Portimão children learn entrepreneurship at school

StartIUPI project will reach 314 4th year students

4th year students from schools in Portimão will develop entrepreneurial skills throughout the current school year, within the scope of the StartIUPI project, which will reach 314 students from seven schools in the municipality.

"This methodology, driven by the Creative Territories, aims to bring entrepreneurship to schools, involving all stakeholders in a fun and educational way, continuing the objectives of Startup Portimão, the Municipality's business incubator that acts as an interlocutor with the local entrepreneurial community" , according to the City Council of Portimão.

With this methodology of non-formal education, «children learn to identify opportunities, have self-confidence, know how to listen, make presentations, organize and plan, also gaining responsibility and teamwork, while being able to experience the cycle of value creation (product, price, promotion and place)».

In all, 14 4th grade classes are involved in this project, from schools EB Alvor (two classes), EB Montes de Alvor (one), EB José Sobral (one), EB Chão das Donas (two), EB Pedra Mourinha (four ), EB Vendas (one) and EB Coca Maravilhas (three).

42 sessions are planned, three per school, to take place between February and June.

In the first session, students will participate in activities and games that allow them to «discover what entrepreneurship is and how they can have an entrepreneurial spirit, as well as the development of entrepreneurial skills».

On the second day, «participants begin to experience the value creation cycle, having the opportunity to develop their own projects and creating “something that does not yet exist”». The final session “will enable the children to complete the creation of their projects, working to promote their products and preparing all the necessary materials for sale in the square”.

The works that will be developed during the sessions will be exhibited between the 15th and 19th of June in a place yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, Portimão is promoting another edition of Março Jovem, in the context of which, between the 9th and 11th, the event “Associativismo & Empreendedorismo Juvenil” will take place.

Within the scope of this initiative, «group dynamics and moments of reflection on the theme will be created, with the holding of several workshops at the Professional School Gil Eanes de Portimão and at the Secondary Schools of Bemposta, Manuel Teixeira Gomes and Poeta António Aleixo, with the audience target the 10th, 11th and 12th grade classes».

«The goal is to guide young people in the creation and structuring of their ideas and, in a second phase, provide tools that allow the sharing and defense of those same ideas in a final session, scheduled for March 19, between 14:30 pm and 17:00 pm, in the auditorium of Bemposta Secondary School», concluded the Municipality of Portimão.
