Portimão Hospital users protest against NHS problems in Algarve

Users call for the participation of users, health professionals and the entire population of Portimão and Barlavento Algarvio

The users of the Hospital de Portimão will return to concentrate on Saturday, the 15th, in front of this health unit, as a protest «against the aggravated state of the National Health Service» and to demand answers from the Government.

The demonstration, called by the Commission of Users of the Hospital de Portimão, aims to continue "a fight that is fair and necessary," according to this movement.

"The commission calls for the participation of users, health professionals and the entire population of Portimão and Barlavento Algarvio in this concentration, where a response to the identified problems will be required", they add.

The protest is due to the fact that, according to the commission, the Algarve continues to be "one of the regions most affected by the degradation policies of the National Health Service".

«Public disinvestment policies, service closures, mergers and concentration of hospital units, closures and concentration of Health Center extensions, rationing of resources, maintenance of user fees, are, among others, marks of the attack verified over the years to the National Health Service», frame the users of the Hospital de Portimão.

Added to this are “the lack of working conditions and care at the hospital in Portimão, the long waiting times for consultations and surgeries, the state of the Emergency Service and the glaring lack of doctors, nurses and assistants”.

«For the right to be born at the Hospital de Portimão, by more means, by more professionals and by a better National Health Service: everyone to Hospital de Portimão», calls the users committee.
