Works allow two boats to dock simultaneously at the Port of Portimão

Works will cost 1,9 million euros

The Port of Cruises of Portimão will now be able to receive the docking of two ships simultaneously following an intervention that has already started.

This work, which is being carried out by the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve (APS) and will cost close to 1,9 million euros, includes «the construction of two dukes of alba in the area affecting the Port of Portimão, as well as the removal of 27 thousand cubic meters of sand, which will allow the mooring of two ships at the same time, as a result of a better use of the available space», according to the City Council of Portimão.

The works should be completed in July.

«The municipality of Portimão marks the completion of this work, having also been informed by APS that this entity intends to dredge the access channel and the vessel rotation basin, at an estimated investment of 17,5 million euros. In this regard, the municipality was informed that “the respective environmental impact study is being reassessed by the Portuguese Environment Agency, which should decide by next July”», revealed the municipality.

«All these interventions are of particular importance for the Port of Cruises in Portimão, which by the end of this year has already confirmed 54 stopovers», concluded the City Council of Portimão.
