Government gives green light to construction of University Health Center in Loulé

The work costs 3,7 million euros

The Government has already given the green light to the construction of a building, in Loulé, which will group together the Lauroé Family Health Unit, the Health Care Unit in the Community of Loulé, also foreseeing the creation of a University Health Centre.

The decision was made known this Thursday, February 17, with the Ministry of Health validating, sending for publication in the Diário da República, the necessary authorization for the conclusion of the program contract with the Municipality of Loulé.

The work foresees the expansion and improvement of the Health Center of Loulé, in order to also proceed with the installation of the headquarters of the Health Centers Groupings of the Central Algarve.

The Algarve – and Loulé – Jamila Madeira, Assistant Secretary of State and Health, was responsible for this decision, stressing the importance of the project not only for improving access and provision of healthcare to the population of Loulé, but also for the fixation of clinicians in the Algarve.

«This is an innovative project that will take the form of a University Health Center, with a strong teaching and research component. It will add quality to the health services provided to the population, also contributing to the enhancement of the University of the Algarve itself», he says.

The work costs 3,7 million euros – 1,3 are already approved by the Ministry of Health.
