Called "Dream Fisherman" and wants to promote school success, combating early school leaving. The project, managed by the Association for the Support of Exceptional Persons of the Algarve (APEXA), implemented in Albufeira, was awarded 3rd place in the sixth edition of the AGIR Award, by REN, with the award being presented this Tuesday, 11 of February.

With 10 years of activity, “Pescador de Sonhos” was born in Ferreiras, having spread to Quinta da Palmeira (a problematic social district, with people of 23 different nationalities), in Albufeira, in 2013.

The project provides support for the study and awareness-raising actions to prevent risky behavior, focusing on the broad participation of families, through a Family Support Office.

This project also offers creative workshops, a traveling van for literacy and citizenship actions and a community studio, where the young people's musical works can be recorded.

All this offer aims to provide children and young people with playful and educational experiences, which encourage continuity in the school career, raise awareness of risk behaviors, promote literacy in the community and the social integration and employability of families.

According to Nuno Neto, president of APEXA, «the “Fisherman of Dreams” aims to support ethnic minorities and young people most vulnerable to failure and school dropout. For APEXA, the word grow is fundamental in a free and open society and we are opposed to any social structure that is different from this path».

«It is a concern of APEXA that the support of REN's AGIR award allows training and educating society to deal with and face these young people as part of it, in an assumed Manifesto for Inclusion», he concludes.

In this 6th edition of the AGIR Award, the Apps for Good program, from AICD – Association for Insertion by Digital Information Centers – CDI Portugal, was the winner with a project that promotes the creation of applications that make a difference and transform the communities in which fall into.

In second place was the “Superpower Schools” initiative, promoted by the Associação Juvenil Transformers, from Porto, which helps young people to develop social skills with the help of volunteer mentors.
