Portimonense loses chance to escape the descent zone

Algarvians came out to a chorus of whistles

Portimonense did not go beyond a zero draw against Paços de Ferreira, in the 16th round of the I League of football, played this Saturday, January 11th. The Algarvians missed the opportunity to leave the descent zone.

With Marlos in the 11th starting lineup and the reinforcement Bruno Costa on the bench, Portimonense went to the game with the certainty that they had to win to escape relegation places, a message even left by the supporters in a displayed banner.

The warning was given, but the truth is that the first half was weak and almost without scoring opportunities.

Dener's header was saved in the 3rd minute, which passed close to the post, and a run by Marlos, in the 40th minute, which collided, already inside the area, at central Maracás.

In the second half, António Folha launched Bruno Costa, who made his debut as a player for the Algarve.

Portimonense appeared more attacking, although chances remain slim. Jackson, at 60′, headed over, after a corner, but Paços also responded by Bruno Santos, in a similar move (63′).

The Algarvians charged in the last few minutes and Aylton had a lost pair. At 77′, well served by Jackson, the Portuguese winger failed to shoot, already inside the area and only with goalkeeper Ricardo Ribeiro ahead.

After eight minutes, the same Aylton had everything to score, but, unopposed on the left side of the area, he shot close to the post.

The Algarvians didn't even manage to reach the goal and left to a chorus of whistles.

With this draw, Portimonense has 14 points and remains in the relegation zone, one point behind Paços de Ferreira and Belenenses (one game less). In the next round, the last of the first round, the Algarve will visit Aves.
