Photography, conferences and cinema at the first “Politics & Image” meetings in Lagoa

Meetings take place within the scope of the installation of the Casa da Cidadania in the former Paços do Concelho de Lagoa

Lagoa will host, between the 15th and 18th of January, its first “International Meetings of Politics and Image of Lagoa – Politics&Image”, within the scope of the installation of the Casa da Cidadania in the old Town Hall of Lagoa.

Graça Fonseca, Minister of Culture, will be present at the closing session of this event, which aims to «create a space and a moment for reflection in the relationship between politics and image in the XNUMXst century».

For this, the Câmara de Lagoa invited the «reference Portuguese photographers» Paulo Catrica, Augusto Brázio, Lara Jacinto and Valter Vinagre, who were in this municipality in an artistic residency and «built a set of photographic projects that had the municipality as their object of work. de Lagoa, and which will be the artistic support of these first Politics&Image”.

Photographer Paulo Catrica worked on architecture and ways of living, resulting in his project in the exhibition prospectus. Augusto Brázio worked on tourism and the tourist industry and his exhibition is entitled The children of the sun: the search for the idyllic.

Lara Jacinto developed a project about migrant workers, which resulted in the exhibition Paradise. Valter Vinagre documented the religious confessions present in Lagoa and his work is entitled hearts on high.

«For this edition, the photographer João Pina was also invited, who is coming to show a work he has been doing in Colombia about Venezuelan refugees. This project is called “Caminantes”», says Câmara de Lagoa.

The first three exhibitions will be on display at Centro Cultural Convento de São José, in Lagoa. Valter Vinagre's can be seen in the Parish Hall of the Parish of Nossa Senhora da Luz, Igreja Matriz in Lagoa. The exhibition “Caminantes” will be in the session room of the former Paços do Concelho.

The event's program includes conferences, to which Alejandro Castellote, independent curator and creator of Photo España, philosopher Mário Santiago Carvalho and Antena 1 journalist José Manuel Rosendo were invited.

“The three scheduled roundtables will be about documenting the world, interfaith dialogue and migration in the XNUMXst century,” says the organization.

On the 15th, the Casa da Cidadania notebooks will be launched with the photographic projects resulting from the artistic residencies and the Cross-Border medal, authored by the master-sculptor and medalist José Teixeira, will be presented.

On the 16th, Thursday, when the creation of the municipality of Lagoa is celebrated, there will be a commemorative session, chaired by Luís Encarnação, the mayor of Lagoa, where the development of the Casa da Cidadania project will be presented.

Between the 15th and the 17th, films by Sérgio Tréfaut will be screened, including the award-winning “Raiva”, at Centro Cultural Convento de São José, with a presentation by the anthropologist Ana Machado.
