Group of Schools António Aleixo debates Court, School and Community in Portimão

The young João Pedro Camer will be present, who comes to share, in the first person, his story in the promotion and protection system

The seminar “The Court, School and Community – The model of Restorative Justice in promotion and protection” will take place this Friday, January 10, at 17:00, in the auditorium of the Municipal Museum of Portimão.

This initiative, organized by the Poet António Aleixo Schools Group, is part of the commemorations of the proclamation of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959) and the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly (1989), and has as objective the reflection on the concept of Restorative Justice, as well as on its applicability in the domain of promotion and protection.

“Currently, the restorative justice paradigm has been applied in several domains, namely the criminal domain, the educational domain and the domain of promoting the rights and protection of children and young people”, explains the organization of the seminar.

"It corresponds, however, to a very old concept, experienced by people like the Maori, in the former New Zealand, who used restorative principles to resolve situations of conflict between offenders and their victims, bearing in mind the collective interests and well-being of the whole community».

Isabel Quirino, a psychologist at the Group, explained to Sul Informação that «the our goal is to start discussing this concept of Restorative Justice, which we think could be very useful in schools».

The Seminar program includes communications by Joaquim Manuel da Silva, judge at the Family and Minors Court of Mafra, and Ana Fazenda, coordinator of the Algarve Regional Technical Team/National Commission for the Promotion of Rights and Protection of Children and Youth.

It also includes a communication by the young João Pedro Camer, who comes to share, in the first person, his story in the promotion and protection system.

Entries, open to the entire community, can be made through the form in www.cfaeportimao-monchique.com.pt (Short Duration Action for Teachers) or email to [email protected] (Community in general).
