UAlg professor elected national director of the Center for Research and Innovation in Tourism

Fernando Perna, a professor at the University of Algarve (UAlg), was elected, on December 16th, national director of the Center for Research, Development and Innovation in Tourism (CiTUR) for the 2020-2022 mandate.

Professor at the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism of the University of Algarve, Fernando Perna has a curriculum of more than 20 years of teaching and applied research in the field of tourism and economy, having previously been a member of the board of CIDER – Centro de Research and Development in Regional Economics and CITT – International Center for Research in Territory and Tourism, and, since 2018, coordinator of the Algarve pole of CiTUR.

He is a regular author of international scientific publications and a strong applied research activity in Portugal and abroad, with experiences in ERASMUS mobility and international education in Spain, Cape Verde, Norway, China and Algeria.

CiTUR is a Research & Development unit created in 2008 within the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria.

In September 2017, under the impetus of the Network of Public Institutions of Polytechnic Higher Education (RIPTUR), it was reconfigured to a national polynuclear format, now comprising six poles – Guarda, Leiria, Coimbra, Estoril, Madeira and Algarve – where 17 institutions with polytechnic higher education courses in tourism are represented (15 polytechnics and 2 universities).

CiTUR currently has the classification of “Good” by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and it has nearly 200 researchers, 98 of which are integrated.
