Young migrants who washed ashore in Monte Gordo stay in Portugal

Young people asked for protection status that was granted by our country

The eight young Moroccan migrants, who landed this Wednesday, December 11, on the beach in Monte Gordo, will stay in Portugal, being, even today, transferred to the Portuguese Center for Refugees.

In a statement sent minutes ago, the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) says that the group, "composed of young people aged between 16 and 26, and of Moroccan nationality, stayed overnight in Vila Real de Santo António and will today be transferred to Lisbon, to the Portuguese Center for Refugees».

Moreover, this happens after everyone has asked our country for a “protection statute”.

«Like others who arrived in Portugal, their request will be assured and registered, and documentation will be provided to prove the period of analysis», says the SEF.

The objective is that, during the time they are in the country, "they can be guaranteed medical assistance, education, housing and livelihoods", he concludes.

This group of migrants washed ashore yesterday, having been found cold and hungry, despite having no health problems.
