New issue of Al-'Ulyà Magazine is dedicated to Joaquim Romero Magalhães

Professor Joaquim Romero Magalhães died in December last year

The new edition of Al-'Ulyà Magazine, dedicated to Joaquim Romero Magalhães, is presented on November 21, at 10:00 am, at the Loulé Municipal Archive.

This publication was fully conceived to honor this full professor and natural historian from Loulé, deceased at the end of 2018. It consists of 12 articles by colleagues and friends of the professor and eight testimonies from the members of the journal's scientific council.

Vítor Aleixo, mayor of Loulé, and Manuel Pedro Serra, director of the magazine, will do the opening session.

The presentation program will feature five panels: “Time and space in the learning of an economist” (by José Reis), “Cooperating with Joaquim Romero Magalhães” (by João Sabóia), “To Joaquim Magalhães” (by Luís Reis Torgal), “My academic and civic memories with Prof. Romero Magalhães” (by Vilhena Mesquita) and “Romero, Algarvio!” (by José D'Encarnação).

At the end, this issue of Al-'Ulyà Magazine will be offered to the audience, followed by a visit to the Municipal Archives.

Al'-'Ulya Magazine, founded in 1992, was conceived for a specialized segment of the public, and also has the particularity of attracting readers with a common interest in the study and knowledge of Social Sciences, Humanities and Historical-Cultural Heritage.

Joaquim Romero Magalhães was one of the great promoters and one of the most prestigious collaborators of Al'-'Ulya Magazine. The Algarve historian and researcher was born in Loulé, in 1942, and received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Algarve, in December of last year.

A few days later, he would eventually die, in Coimbra, at the age of 76.

In honor of the Algarve intellectual, the Câmara de Loulé launched the Professor Doutor Joaquim Romero Magalhães Award, whose first edition will take place in 2020.
