Farense is the new leader of the II Liga, after beating Mafra 2-1, in a game played today, Sunday, at Estádio de São Luís, in Faro. The Algarve still had to suffer, largely through their own fault, but managed to secure the desired three points.

The beginning of the game was marked by balance, albeit with a slight rise from Mafra. The teams did not take long to fit in and attacks from one and another formation followed, with the ball circling the two large areas, but without any real danger plays.

The first defense worthy of the name was made in the 30th minute by the Mafrense goalkeeper Godinho. In a quick counterattack, Ryan Gauld entered the area and shot across, albeit with little strength and within reach of the opposing keeper.

Soon after, Nuno Rodrigues, from Mafra, tried a shot, but the ball went over Hugo Marques' goal.

Farense made it 1-0 shortly after, in the 37th minute, following a penalty that punished Júnior Franco's foul on Ryan Gauld – much contested by the Mafrense. Fabrício Simões did not hesitate and put the team on Faro in advantage.

Until the end of the first half, Mafra continued to look for the goal, but couldn't fit shots with the goal of the Algarve.

Farense went full throttle in the second half and quickly increased their advantage. On minute 50, Fábio Nunes shot across, Godinho made an incomplete save and Matheus Silva hit the back of the net.

A minute earlier, Furlan had already threatened, with a crossed shot that went wide and, moments after the 2-0, Matheus was close to scoring twice, but the shot went slightly over the top.

From here, the Algarve began to manage the advantage of two goals, trying to retain the ball and not risking much in attack, although without giving up trying for the third goal.

Mafra, on the other hand, did what they could to try to change their fortunes, albeit without much discernment.

And it was thanks to a toast from Rocha that Mafra managed to score, on 71 minutes. The Farense defender fell out with his teammate Hugo Marques and left the ball at the mercy of Ayongo, who made a hat to the goalkeeper of the Algarve, who was well away from goal.

The visitors were enthusiastic and managed to get closer to the home team's goal. But the momentum didn't last long and the Algarvians returned to ice the game.

Farense came close to increasing the advantage, in the 87th minute, but Fábio Nunes' strong shot went over the top.

Before the final whistle, the Algarve still had two chills, first following a free-kick, with a lot of confusion in the area of the Algarve, and, soon after, with a strong shot that Hugo Marques deflected to the post.

With this result, Farense is now isolated in the first position of the II League, with 21 points, although with one more game than the second placed, Sporting da Covilhã, which yesterday drew with Penafiel and now has 19 points .
