The University of Córdoba distinguishes the Archaeological Field of Mértola with the “IV Sísifo a la Investigación, Defensa y Difusión del Patrimonio Archaeological Prize”, which will be awarded this Thursday, October 10, at 19:30 pm, at the Arab House, in Córdoba.
This was a unanimous decision. According to the Cultural Association of the University of Córdoba, the objective is to recognize the «work of research, protection, and revitalization of the archaeological and cultural heritage of this location, which has become an international model of integral archeology».
Speaking to Público, archaeologist Virgílio Lopes said that this distinction highlights the «struggle and commitment of the Archaeological Field of Mértola with History and Archeology, through the recognition of the work in preserving the material and intellectual legacy of the past of Mértola and the its contribution to local development'.
