Government has 101 million for energy efficiency. Algarve gets 4

Funds are for companies, local administration, social housing and IPSS

The Government has $101 million to fund increased energy efficiency for businesses, local administration, social housing and IPSS. The Algarve will have the smallest slice of the cake, just 4 million euros. Alentejo will have 13 million.

This money comes from European Union Funds and will be made available through the Portugal 2020 Regional Operational Programs.

In all, there are 24,5 million for companies, 32,5 million euros for Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS), 19 million for local administration buildings and 25 million for social housing buildings.

"These investments are part of the National Energy and Climate Plan, which promotes the decarbonization of the economy and the energy transition aimed at carbon neutrality in 2050, based on a model of territorial cohesion that enhances the generation of wealth and the efficient use of resources", according to the office of the Secretary of State for Regional Development.

«This support can be aimed, in the case of companies, for the installation of new, more efficient technologies, for the replacement of fleets through the acquisition of electric or natural gas vehicles or for the installation of solar panels and other renewable energy sources. In public or private buildings, they can be used to install thermal insulation around buildings, to install windows with thermal cutouts or to lighting solutions that imply energy savings», framed the Government.

The support now announced “is part of a total of 730 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund and the Cohesion Fund destined, within the scope of Portugal 2020, to improve energy efficiency in Mainland Portugal”.

The fact that they are funds intended for cohesion justify the meager budget allocated to the Algarve, which is found in phasing out of the poorest regions in the European Union. In other words, it is in a phase of adaptation to enter the group of richer regions, which means that it does not have access to this type of funds.

The Government is going to make this support line known in seminars to publicize the notices of competition for companies and for the IPSS. In the Algarve, the session takes place in Faro, on the 29th of October. In Alentejo, the seminar will take place next week, on the 14th, in Évora.
