National Emergency Congress brings together hundreds of doctors in Portimão

The event's motto will be «(re)Thinking about Urgency in the 40 years of the National Health System»

More than 350 health professionals are expected at the National Emergency Congress, which will take place between Thursday and Sunday, 10th and 13th, at the Municipal Theater of Portimão.

During four days, various topics will be addressed in this space of training and discussion on Emergency, «from pre-hospital care to the care of the critically ill», from the motto «(Re)Thinking Urgency in the 40 years of the National System of Health".

«Conferences, round tables and meetings with the specialist will set the tone for the discussion. Highlight also to the three pre-congress courses, which between 10 and 11 October will enable all interested parties to deepen their knowledge in various areas of emergency intervention», according to the Organizing Committee of the congress, made up of a group of Internal Medicine specialists from Portimão, as indicated by the Center for Urgency and Acute Patient Studies (NEUrgMI) of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine (SPMI).

In 2019, the event is part of the Portimão – European City of Sport 2019 (CED) program. «The association with the CED is justified by the importance that the emergency services, both at the hospital and pre-hospital level, play in supporting and supporting sporting events».

“It is essential that the means are prepared to respond to catastrophic situations that can also affect major sporting events, which is one of the themes highlighted in the scientific programme. In addition, clinical problems such as trauma and cardiovascular and respiratory diseases that can affect athletes will also be highlighted in update sessions with specialists in these areas», reinforced the event organizers.

The 5th National Urgency Congress is organized by the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine with the scientific sponsorship of the Medical Association and with the support of the Municipality of Portimão, ARS Algarve, University Hospital Center of Algarve, HPA Saúde Group, Algarve Biomedical Center, Voluntary Firefighters of Portimão, Teia D'Impulsos Association and Algarve Wine Commission.
