Bloc achieves goal, but regrets loss of «parliamentary diversity» in the Algarve

Left bloc re-elected deputy for the Algarve

The "main objective was achieved", but João Vasconcelos, deputy elected by the Left Bloc in Legislative this Sunday, October 6, regrets that the Algarve has become "poorer in terms of parliamentary diversity".

Ao Sul Informação, João Vasconcelos, who was the head of the list, was happy that the Left Bloc was once again able to elect a deputy for the Algarve.

“The main objective has been achieved. We are the third political force in the Algarve and in the country», he said.

Even so, the deputy confessed to our newspaper that one of the goals, although more "remote", was to "elect a second parliamentarian".

What is certain is that, compared to the Legislative Elections of 2015, the Algarve lost the representation of two parties: the CDU and the CDS, which have now failed to elect deputies.

“We regret the fact that the CDU lost a deputy because it is a loss for the left. The Algarve was, in general, a little poorer in terms of diversity. We went from five to three parties, but we will continue to work for the Algarve», said João Vasconcelos.

For the next legislature, the deputy of the Left Bloc says that the “main themes, for which we are going to fight, are diagnosed”.

«It is necessary to provide hospitals with Faro, Portimão and Lagos of the necessary human and logistical resources and proceed with the construction of the Hospital Central do Algarve. Let's see if the necessary steps will be taken at that level», he explained.

“In terms of mobility, it is necessary to end the catastrophe of tolls on the A22. The requalification of the EN125, between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António, is also imperative, as well as the requalification of the railway», he added.

With the final results almost determined, the scenario of the Left Bloc being able to enter the Government, in a coalition with the PS, seems to be a hypothesis.

Asked about this, João Vasconcelos was perentory: «we'll see what happens in the next few days».
