The Municipality of Silves and the Psychiatry service of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) are jointly organizing an awareness-raising session on the topic of suicide on September 23, at 15 pm, at the Municipal Library of Silves.
The action is aimed at users of the Long Life Education Poles of the Silves City Council, as well as users and technicians at Santas Casas de Alcantarilha, Armação de Pêra and Silves, João de Deus Social Center, Humanitarian Association of São Marcos da Serra, Parish Center of Pêra.
This initiative, promoted by the Community Mental Health Teams, is part of the “Suicide Prevention Month” which aims to raise awareness of this issue, “since suicide is a problem with some relevance in the Algarve”, he says. the Chamber of Silves.
The campaign is part of the actions promoted worldwide by the International Association for the Prevention of Suicide, which has the support in Portugal of the National Plan for Mental Health, the Portuguese Society of Suicidiology and the National Plan for the Prevention of Suicide (PNPS) of the Directorate-General of health.
Also within the scope of this campaign, two other activities took place in the municipality of Silves: an awareness-raising action in the community, at the Silves Market, on 6 September and the 1st Cycle Ride Pedalar pela Vida, integrated in the World initiative “ Cycle around the globe”, which took place on the 14th of September.
