Paracyclist from Tavira joins the Portuguese national team at the World Cup in Holland

Four runners represent Portugal at the World Road Paracycling Championship in the Netherlands

Portuguese paracycling will be represented by four riders at the World Championship for Road Paracycling, from September 12th to 15th, in Emmen, Netherlands.

The Portugal Team will be formed by Flávio Pacheco (Sporting/Tavira Paracycling), in H4, Luís Costa, in H5 class, Telmo Pinão (Casa do Benfica MMV/APCA Paracycling), in C2 class, and Bernardo Vieira, in C1.

Telmo Pinão will be the first to run, lining up in the 20,8 km time trial, scheduled for 9:00 am, on Thursday, September 12th.

On the same day, at 14:15 pm, it is Bernardo Vieira's turn to compete in the individual exercise. The time trial of the “hanbikes” with national presence are scheduled for 13:00 on Friday. Both Luís Costa and Flávio Pacheco will complete 20,8 kilometers.

On Saturday, at 15:30 pm, the starting shot will be given for the C1 and C2 class endurance races, which will have 66,6 kilometers and will feature Bernardo Vieira and Telmo Pinão.

Flávio Pacheco competes in the long distance race of H4, with 51,8 kilometers, at 10:15 am on Sunday. On the same day, at 16:15 pm, Luís Costa begins the class H5 cross-country race, which will total 66,6 kilometers.

“The main objective is to ensure that everyone is integrated into the Paralympic project, which implies rankings in the top ten. In addition, we have the ambition to get at least a podium position, although we know it is difficult, because the competition is very strong”, explains the national paracycling coach, José Marques.

The best result in Portugal in Paracycling World Championships was achieved by Luís Costa, when, two years ago, he was ranked third in the individual time trial.
