The couple suspected of having murdered a 70-year-old man in the victim's house, located in São Brás de Alportel, in September 2018, goes to trial, accused of murder – in the case of the man – robbery and attempted arson.
The 39-year-old defendant is said to have entered the house on the night of September 17 to 18, at a time when the 38-year-old woman was in the room with the victim. The alleged murderer would then have repeatedly hit the victim "with an undetermined instrument, until he killed her".
“Afterwards, both defendants will have poured alcohol on the victim's bed, set fire to some papers, opened the gas burners on the stove and lit a candle, thus trying to cause an explosion and a fire that would extinguish the traces. They will also have searched the house and taken with them the valuables they found», describes the Public Ministry, who filed charges for trial by collective court against the couple.
At first, people thought that the elderly person's death was due to a gas leak, but this hypothesis was rejected, “thanks to a meticulous research work carried out”, which culminated in the arrest and, now, in the accusation of the couple.
“Both defendants are charged with the crimes of aggravated robbery and attempted arson. The defendant is also charged with the crime of aggravated homicide," stated the MP.
the alleged murderer is in preventive detention. The woman, on the other hand, is subject to the obligation of periodic presentation at the police station and the prohibition to leave the municipality of her residence.
