Discover the highlights of the new schedule

A concert by Mão Morta, the show “Canções de Roda, Lenga Lengas and Others que Tais”, with Sérgio Godinho, Ana Bacalhau, Vitorino and Jorge Benvinda, the World Accordion Trophy, the theater play “All things wonderful” and stand-up comedy with Bruno Nogueira. These are some of the highlights of Cine-Teatro Louletano for the new season from September to December.

The theater opens the season, on September 14th, with the acclaimed monologue “All things wonderful”, with actor Ivo Canelas, a play with a lot of humor but that addresses serious themes, written by the British Duncan Macmillan, which has already been presented in several countries.

The premiere, in southern Portugal, of the play “Medeia”, by the disturbing Companhia João Garcia Miguel (with the special participation of pianist Mário Laginha playing live), the performance-piece “Olá, eu sou o Pai Natal”, by Tiago Barbosa (which inaugurates a new section called “Terças improváveis”), as well as the national premiere of the play “encanecer”, resulting from the co-production established between the Loulé companies Folha de Medronho and Mákina de Cena (under the Theater Support Grant 2019 launched by the Loulé autarchy), are the other highlights in the Theater area.

With regard to music, the entire program is based on a declared commitment to a multiplicity of approaches with proposals that cover the most varied universes: pop, blues, jazz, heavy metal, world music/traditional, instrumental, opera, classical.

According to Loulé, «the highlight is the show “Opera Rocks”, a classic love story between a soprano and a rock star, with singer Carla Pontes, singer and guitarist Ray van Duijvenbode, pianist Cristiana Silva and narration by Mário Rui Filipe (produced by the cultural association Ideias do Levante), or the premiere in the South of the new conceptual album by the mythical band Mão Morta “No fim era o cold”».

The importance of giving the entire program an international dimension is also visible in the absolute premieres in the southern region of the renowned Tim Bernardes, one of the greatest revelations of new Brazilian music (Paulinho Lêmos signs the first part of this concert reinventing themes by Portuguese composers), and Jack Broadbent, a leading figure in the world of blues and master in the technique of slide guitar, with the Algarve musician Vítor Bacalhau doing his first part (here in collaboration with the Algarve Blues Association).

Dance is already a regular presence in the program schedules of the Cine-Teatro Louletano and on October 13th its stage presents the show “Sentimentos Argentinos”, with internationally renowned performers fusing traditional folklore with content at the level of contemporary dance, flamenco and the tango.

Alongside this, there is a bolder proposal, with the Porto structure Circolando (which has never performed in Loulé) to premiere in the South the show “Night”, an intimate and disturbing creation based on the poetry of Al Berto.

The Cine-Teatro Louletano will also host the FOMe – Festival of Objects and Puppets & Other Foods (between 14 and 28 September), the presentation of the Summer Blue Festival (in the second half of October), the 69th World Trophy de Accordion (November 3rd to 9th) and the Iberian Cultural Heritage Biennial (October 11th to 13th), the latter with two concert orders, one that joins accordionist Nelson Conceição to an ensemble of the Banda Filarmónica Artistas de Minerva and the Cristina Paulo and the other to the renowned musician Rão Kyao, with Spanish and Moroccan musicians.

With regard to art for children, “Catamarã” stands out, a theatrical creation by Ana Lázaro and Ricardo Neves-Neves, for children from eight years old, and “A Menina do Mar”, a theater show musical with musical direction by Martim Sousa Tavares (grandson of the poet), as part of the commemorations of the centenary of the birth of Sophia de Mello Breyner, to take place on November 17th and 18th.

In addition, there will be a “very special concert involving the Grupo Coral Infantil de Loulé, composed of more than 100 children, and a luxury collective that includes Sérgio Godinho, Ana Bacalhau, Vitorino and Jorge Benvinda, to revisit traditional songs from the children's imagination. in the show “Canções de Roda, Lenga Lengas and Others que Tais”».

It will be on September 22, "in one of the most awaited moments of the second semester of this year".

An allusion to the introduction of a new format of music workshops for babies and parents, with four sessions in October and November, promoted by Companhia Musicalmente.

In articulation with the Cine-Teatro, the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, in Loulé, has been defining its programmatic identity based on the appreciation and dissemination of emerging projects through the cycle “Illustrious Unknowns” which will be featured in this season, with the presentation of the experimental collective of musicians based in Lagos, “Plasticine”.

The aspect of reflection and thought continues with the formats “Conversas à Quinta” (with luxury guests such as choreographer Rui Horta and musicians Filipe Raposo and Rita Maria) and “Dos Sabores da Cultura” (in a session dedicated to Filipa Faísca , an unavoidable figure in the traditional culture of Loulé).

The artist residency in Loulé of the singer Cristina Branco and the presentation of the renowned Austrian ensemble Trisonante at the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation are also two examples of the decentralization of events outside the Lisbon-Porto axis.

Also noteworthy is the spectacle of stand up “Depois do medo”, with Bruno Nogueira, on the 14th of November, and the commission made to the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve for the presentation of an unprecedented concert, on the 1st of December, around the work of poet Sophia de Mello Breyner, the which will close the official celebrations of its centenary.

A special word also for RHI (Revolution_Hope_Imagination), an initiative of the Art Institute, headquartered in New York, which is intended to accelerate a new dialogue between art, culture and business through talks, workshops and multidisciplinary shows, which will close on the 21st of September precisely in Loulé, bringing international programmers and other professionals, and creating space in Loulé for the presentation and enhancement/promotion of artistic projects based in the Algarve.
