Absolute Regional Championship marks the reopening of the Albufeira Athletics Track

176 athletes from 17 clubs (13 regional, 2 national and 3 international) competed in various competitions

Albufeira Athletics Track has already reopened and hosted, last Sunday, June 30th, the Absolute Regional Championship. 

The 176 athletes from 17 clubs (13 regional, 2 national and 3 international) competed in various competitions at various levels, from beginners to veterans.

The competition marked the official reopening of the Athletics Track, which was recently reclassified by the municipality. The contract, worth around 300 thousand euros, included the complete replacement of the floor in tartan, according to
standards of the Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

As a result of this intervention, the track is once again approved and prepared to host national and international events.

 

 

"This requalification was urgent, given the importance of the equipment both for the clubs and for the general population who practice informal sports and follow the sport's events", said José Carlos Rolo, mayor of Albufeira.

The mayor also demonstrated his intention to bring to Albufeira regional, national and international competitions that promote sport and encourage the practice of athletics.

José Carlos Rolo also challenged current and future users to «promote the use and respect for this equipment so that it can always be with the quality it now presents and so that the user experience is always the best possible».

The mayor of Albufeira took the opportunity to review the situation of the investments made in the Municipal Stadium, which amount to more than 600 thousand euros, between the new Athletics Track, the waterproofing of the bench «which will allow it to finally stop raining inside of the space that is occupied by various equipment used by the Immortal», the placement of new chairs on the same bench, the acquisition of goal posts, nets and new benches for substitutes.

 

 

Also noteworthy is the investment made in the Municipal Synthetic Fields, namely with the placement of removable benches and the construction of the supporting wall. José Carlos Rolo also stated that «the municipality's next priority for this sports area will be the replacement of the pitch at Campos Sintéticos, which is already at the limit in
terms of use and which needs to be changed, as we have already done in Ferreiras and will be doing in other sports venues».

Also present at this reopening was Jorge Santos, president of the Algarve Athletics Association, who congratulated the Municipality of Albufeira for the recovery of the track, «an important equipment for the region, which, in addition to receiving the clubs' daily training, will allow events to be held. linked to the modality'.
