Renewed Sweet Art opens doors this Friday

100 kg Dom Rodrigo welcomes visitors

The XXXII Arte Doce Contest Fair starts this Friday, July 26th and continues until Sunday, July 28th, in a reorganized space, an invited region, musical shows and the presentation of the largest Dom Rodrigo in the world with 100 kilos.

Now in its 32nd edition, and having been the first event of its kind to appear in the Algarve, «the Arte Doce Contest Fair presents a new, more modern image and a very diversified and appealing program, in a direct invitation to various audiences», highlights the Chamber of Lagos.

According to the local authority, «with traditional sweets always in the forefront, the organization decided to invest in a series of innovations that include the introduction of new award categories, Innovation Sweets, appealing to the creativity of the confectioners, and Stand Decoration, which join the distinctions of Doce Tradição (Dom Rodrigo, Morgado, Doce Fino and Doce de Figo), Free Theme and Obligatory Theme, this year dedicated to wine».

The introduction of an invited region is another novelty, with Baixo Alentejo being present «with the typical flavors of its gastronomy and sweets, circulating entertainment, musical shows and live craftsmanship».

The Câmara de Lagos also emphasizes that the XXXII Arte Doce Contest Fair will have «a reorganization of the space with new features, reserving the interior for the sweets stands and displaying the best local wines, and expanding to the outside of the Complexo Desportivo venue with handicrafts , taverns with traditional appetizers from Lagos and Algarve, a children's area with inflatables and two stages».

Parking is available in the area near the Estádio Municipal de Lagos.

Even with all these new features, «the event did not forget the didactic aspect present in the showcookings and tasting sessions of Dom Rodrigo, Algarve cataplana and local wines, providing the visitor with new experiences related to Algarve gastronomy».

The entertainment of the three days is in charge of several artists from the Algarve and Alentejo on the secondary stage, but also of the headliners David Fonseca (26), Raquel Tavares (27) and Agir (28), who will pass by the main stage “to warm up those summer nights”.

Candidate for the 7 Sweet Wonders of Portugal, Dom Rodrigo de Lagos will be another protagonist of the event, with a candidacy to Guinness World Records, where the biggest Dom Rodrigo in the world, weighing 100 kg, will be presented and offered to all visitors on the day 26, from 18:00 pm, opening time of the Fair.
