Former Alicoop employees meet today in Silves to create an association

Former employees of Alicoop guarantee that «to date we have not registered any practical result of the promises made»

The former employees of the Alicoop/Alisuper Group, who claim to continue "being persecuted by Banco BIC", will this Wednesday, June 5, at 20:00, meet at the headquarters of the Grupo Desportivo e Cultural do Enxerim, in Silves , to discuss what they are going to do and create an association that defends their rights.

The meeting, which was convened by the Committee of ex-Alicoop Workers, led by Luís Alves, Luís Bandarra, Sérgio Catarino and Paulo Martins, will have five items on the agenda, one of which concerns the «presentation, justification for the creation of ALGA association”, followed by the voting and swearing in of its governing bodies.

In a statement, the Commission says that “after more than six months of tension and uncertainty regarding the outcome of the so-called case of the “injured Alicoop Group against BPN/BIC”, former workers continue to be persecuted by Banco BIC, having based on an alleged default on a loan made in 2008 to help the Alicoop company».

Many of these former employees of the Group "find themselves in difficulties, some without a job and others living on retirement, thus causing insecurity and uncertainty in their lives".

The Ex-Workers Committee stresses that it has already taken “several steps to seek a solution, through expeditious dialogue between the parties, with the objective of restoring the truth, that is, exempting former workers from all past, present and futures, according to the insolvency plan approved and ratified on February 21, 2012».

However, "six months later, the ex-workers find themselves, as they had started, without the recognition of their exemption on the loan, despite all the entities with which the workers' committee has been talking, including the Portuguese Government."

The communiqué recalls that, in its hearing "which took place at the Committee on Budget, Finance and Administrative Modernization", it was "unanimously recognized by the present deputies that it was an unspeakable injustice and the support to the workers' committee in the search for solutions was approved". and that “hearings with the Attorney General's Office and the Bank of Portugal” would be promoted.

But, underline the former employees of Alicoop, "to date we have not registered any practical result of the promises made".

The agenda of the meeting, which is intended to "continue the struggle of former workers, so that compliance with the Court's decision to relieve workers of any debt is guaranteed", ends with the marking of new "fighting actions ».
