UAlg makes students from schools in the Algarve look through the microscope

In the Algarve, six activities are planned

The University of Algarve, through the Center for Research in Biomedicine (CBMR), goes by students from schools in the region to peek through the microscope, to promote microscopy and disseminate knowledge in biological sciences and in the field of bioimaging, in the “MICRODia – 1st National Microscopy Day”, scheduled for the 22nd of May.

The Algarve academy will join the Portuguese Bioimaging Platform (PPBI) to organize this initiative, unprecedented at the national level, which aims to «bring the school to microscopy, through guided demonstrations, and take knowledge back in the bag», according to to UAlg.

"MICRODia allows opening the doors of the PPBI nodes to schools, which are invited to bring their students for visits to national microscopy units, among other proposed activities," added the university.

In the Algarve «six activities will be promoted, ranging from the visualization of embryos “in ovo”, to the observation of intestinal epithelial cells, through the visualization of bone formation and 3D reconstruction in zebra fish».

At the genesis of this event is the fact that we live in a society that is increasingly dependent on technology and scientific innovation. Thus, it is important to understand what advances there are in an «area in constant evolution

MICRODia activities will take place in various parts of the country, at PPBI nodes. In addition to UAlg, the Gulbenkian Institute of Science (IGC), the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology (ITQB), the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), the Faculty of Science of Lisbon (FC-UL), the CEDOC – Chronic Diseases, Champalimaud Foundation (FC), the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM), the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC), the University of Aveiro (iBiMED), the University of Beira Interior (CICS-UBI) and o i3S – Institute of Innovation Research in Health.
