The 3rd Historical Recreation “São Braz d'Alportel 1914”, on the 25th of May, will make the Algarve village travel back in time, with costumes, snacks and even street theatre.
According to the City Council of São Brás, the town's Historical Center will "enter the time machine" and transport visitors to "a time of new conquests when, in the early days of the Republic, the parish was elevated to the municipality of São Brás de Alportel, in the heyday of the cork sector».
«The streets of the Historic Center allow themselves to be invaded by magic; the community takes to the streets in period costumes, the glasses and snacks, in taverns and taverns, recall the flavors of other times and the street entertainment seeks to do justice to the entertainments of the early XNUMXth century. Unexpected events, circus artists, the strains of timeless music, the surprises of street theater and the market with local products will be some of the ingredients of this Historical Recreation», he adds.
Climbing up to the Clock Tower of the Igreja Matriz, participating in a wedding from the beginning of the century, making an old-fashioned portrait with a little mustache are just some of the novelties in this edition.
«Through alleys and nooks, houses with open doors invite you to enter, like an old-fashioned photography studio; or a noble house, the windows are appropriate for the period, and here and there we are surprised by characters recreating everyday situations in the most unexpected places or artisans working live in their craft», says the municipality.
The entertainment program includes the “Balho” à Antiga by the hand of Rancho Típico Sambrasense, the Old Guard Folklore Group and the Folklore Group of Faro, the Jazz show by Grupo Jazz Band New Orleans, La Ideal, Orquestra Típica de Tango do Porto and moments of traditional chords, by Cante Andarilho and Conservatório d'Artes.
The initiative will also have fados and serenades, by the Inversus Group, dances and contradanzas by the feet of the Municipal Dance School and the group “São Brás Bailando” and also the performance of Circo Cardinali.
In addition, there will be theater, with the participation of the company “Viv'arte –Laboratório Nacional de Recreação Histórica”, the theater group of Sociedade Recreativa Bordeirense, Clube do Museu, Associação SãoBrazArte, Banda Filarmónica de São Brás de Alportel and of Grupo Carolas, among countless moments carried out by the most diverse associations, informal groups and many extras of the community.
You will not miss the entertaining Teatro de Robertos, the classical concertina and the Realejo.
Celebrating a century of progress and the establishment of the Republic are the raison d'être of this 3rd Historical Recreation that invites the São Brasense community and all visitors to dress up and enter this journey into the past. Admission is free and the entertainment program takes place between 15:00 and 01:00.
The Historical Recreation “São Braz d'Alportel 1914” is an organization of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, has technical support from the Museu do Trajo, counts on the collaboration of associations, commercial establishments, artisans and producers, artists and musical groups, informal groups and the wider community.
