Loulé Municipal Museum and Regional Directorate of Culture win APOM awards

Loulé Municipal Museum received two awards

The Municipal Museum of Loulé and the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve were distinguished in the 2019 edition of the Portuguese Association of Museology (APOM) awards, which were presented this Friday, 24 May, at Teatro Miguel Franco, in Leiria.

The Municipal Museum of Loulé, that had already been distinguished in 2018, by APOM, received the online communication award, for the promotion of the exhibition “LOULÉ: Territories, Memories and Identities“, which was on display at the National Archeology Museum, in Lisbon.

It was also the result of a partnership that the Loulé museum received the Investigation Award, for the work done with the Institute of Contemporary History of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, for the exhibition “Portuguese forced laborers in the III Reich and Louletans in the Nazi Concentration System“, which is on display until December at Casa Memória Engº Duarte Pacheco, in Loulé.

The Regional Directorate of Culture won the APOM award, in the category of Marketing and Cultural Merchandising, due to the Fortaleza de Sagres store, which reopened in November last year and in addition to merchandising products about Sagres, the Algarve and Portugal, it also features, right at the entrance, a sculptural installation by Marc Parchow, called “Impermanências”.

The Museum of the Year Award was given to the Museum of the Bienal de Arte de Cerveira Foundation.

APOM has awarded the awards annually, since 1997, to museums, projects, good practices, professionals and various activities developed in the sector.

In the 2019 edition, there were 27 categories in the competition and the entity received around 200 applications from institutions in mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Regions, as well as from Portuguese exhibition projects abroad, with 89 entities being distinguished.

In this edition of the awards, APOM created a Special Mention for a group of institutions that highlighted the heritage of their collections related to the Second World War, to point out that “the suffering caused to millions of people will not be forgotten”, when they pass 80 years after the beginning of the conflict (1939).
