The Museums of Loulé and Faro were awarded in the 2018 edition of the Portuguese Museum Association (APOM) Awards. The Museum of Loulé received two awards (Best Catalog and Partnership) and the Faro museum received one (Transport of Heritage).
The Museu Metalúrgica Duarte Ferreira, in Tramagal, in Abrantes, was considered the Best Museum of the Year.
The delivery of the APOM 2018 awards took place this Friday, the 25th of May, at the Museu dos Coches, in Lisbon. Among the winners were two Algarve museums.
The Loulé Museum and the National Archeology Museum received the “Catalogue” award for the exhibition “Loulé: Territories. Memoirs. Identities". The partnership between these two entities was also awarded the prize in the “Partnership” category and an honorable mention in the “Education and Cultural Mediation Project” category.
The Museum of Faro received the “Transport of Heritage” award, another of the 26 categories of these awards (see full list below).
In this edition of the APOM awards, 253 applications were presented, involving institutions from Mainland Portugal and the Autonomous Regions. The initiative «also had a markedly international aspect, recognizing the excellence of projects for the exhibition and cultural dissemination of Portugal abroad», according to APOM.
The awards ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who considered that "no museum needs an award, but those from APOM serve to show that all this exists and it is not sad and not fado" .
