II Liga: Farense confirms maintenance with victory against Académico de Viseu

Tavinho scored the winning goal

This afternoon, Farense beat Académico de Viseu, by 1-0, and guaranteed, in the last round, the maintenance in the II Football League.

Farense entered the last round more rested, after the victory, last week, in Mafra, but he showed, during the first half, that he didn't want to be dependent on the results of the other games to guarantee his maintenance.

Álvaro Magalhães's team had more ball and, in the 19th minute, Irobiso appeared isolated, but in the face-to-face with Académico de Viseu's goalkeeper, Jonas Mendes got the better of it.

In the 41st minute, the winning goal came. Irobiso worked well on the left, crossed low into the area, two defenders from Académico missed the cut and Tavinho only had to pull over for the goal.

In the second half, Farense was less sharp, managed the game, and the best opportunity belonged to Académico de Viseu. At 79′, after a free kick from the left, N'Sor deflected it into goal and Hugo Marques “flew” for a great save.

The Algarve team finished the competition with 43 points, and could finish the championship in 9th, or 10th place, depending on the result of the match between Penafiel and Leixões, which started an hour later.

Arouca, Vitória de Guimarães B and Braga B were the relegated teams in the II League.
