DiVaM takes “Shepherds of Iberia” and “Concertos ao Entardecer” to Milreu and Sagres

Initiatives are free entry

A lecture “Shepherds of Iberia” and an exhibition “Viagem no Tempo” at the Roman Ruins of Milreu, in Estoi (Faro), and the return of the “Concertos ao Entardecer”, at the Fortaleza de Sagres, are activities of the DiVaM program – Dynamization and Valorization of Monuments, to take place on the 24th, 25th and 26th of May.

Integrated in the cycle Amateurs in Situ, the lecture entitled “Shepherds of Iberia” will be given by Fernanda M. Dias (Master in Communication, Culture and Arts at the University of Algarve), this Friday, 24th of May, at 18:00, in the Roman Ruins of Milreu.

Marcel Schwob told Maurice Spronck, in a short story published in 1920, “Le roi au masque d'or”, how teenage shepherds from Iberia de Sertorius arrived in Rome.

“It shows us, through its eyes, diverse people on their way to taverns, public baths and markets – and it makes us feel, through these reminiscences, the poignant nostalgia for the meager pastures, the herds, the brambles; of the mother figure at the door of the hut, of the shepherd girl playing with the princesses or of the cistus bonfire at dusk», says the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve.

The cycle Amateurs in Situ is an organization of CIVIS – Association for the Deepening of Citizenship, University of Algarve and Portuguese Association of Classical Studies.

On Saturday, May 25th, at 17 pm, the exhibition “Viagem no Tempo” will open, where the results of the Creative Day in Milreu will be presented.

«Joining the Land Art concept with the “art of the muses” (mosaic) and reflecting on the durability and the ephemeral nature of art in nature, the site was explored and ephemeral works and small natural mosaics were created in nature. The result will be a great collective work, a contemporary and natural mosaic that uses nature as a means and support».

This is a project by Amarelarte – Cultural and recreational association, with artistic dynamism by Nicole Lissy, Sadie Walker and Jane Gittens and photography by Marco Cavaco.

The “Concertos ao Entardecer” are back at the Promontório de Sagres, with a concert by Nádia Schilling.

On the 26th of May, at 18 pm, in the Auditorium of Fortaleza de Sagres, the artist will present her album “Above the Trees”.

«A record of an unusual melancholy and beauty, that defies stylistic boundaries and that has captured the attention of critics and the public. Based on folk elements, but also indie rock and jazz, “Above the Trees” has influences from artists such as Elliott Smith, Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, Nick Drake, Cat Power, Portishead and PJ Harvey».

“Concertos ao Entardecer” is a project by Arquente Associação Cultural.

All DiVaM cultural initiatives are free to enter.
