Archaeologist Elena Morán launches book on Alcalar at the Faculty of Arts of Lisbon

The book will also be presented in the Algarve, on a date to be announced

The book "El Asentamiento Prehistoric de Alcalar (Portimão, Portugal)» will be presented on Thursday, 9th of May, at 18 pm, at Amphitheater 00 of the Faculty of Arts of Lisbon.

The work is authored by Elena Morán, an integrated researcher at Uniarq/Archaeological Center of the University of Lisbon, as well as one of the archaeologists who have worked most in recent years on the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar.

The publication presents, over 312 pages, amply illustrated, the results of research carried out until 2014 by the Portuguese State and the Municipality of Portimão, in the housing and funeral complex of Alcalar.

The book is “a valuable contribution to the knowledge of the communities that, in the 3rd millennium before the Christian era, inhabited the territory located between the Serra de Monchique and the Baía de Lagos, and to the understanding of the historical process that gave rise to the first societies. politically organized in the extreme south of the territory that is now Portuguese».

The edition, which will be presented by Professor Dr. Victor Gonçalves, professor at the University of Lisbon, constitutes volume 12 of the series studies & memories, of the Uniarch.

The publication was supported by the company Monumenta – Building Rehabilitation and Heritage Conservation, the Algarve Archaeological Association, the Algarve Regional Directorate of Culture, the municipalities of Lagos, Portimão and Monchique and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon.

The book will also be presented in the Algarve, on a date to be announced.
