Algarvio Ricardo Martins presents himself in France with Nazaré Lima

Ricardo Martins was recently nominated for the second time for the International Portuguese Music Awards

The Algarve musician Ricardo Martins, on the Portuguese guitar, takes the stage of the Municipal Auditorium of Lyon (France), to accompany the fado singer Nazaré Lima – known as the “crystal voice” – in her concert, which will also feature Cláudio Sousa, in guitar of fado.

Ricardo Martins was recently nominated for the second time for the International Portuguese Music Awards, an event organized in the United States of America, with the aim of promoting music – of any musical genre – as long as it has Portuguese roots.

In 2018, Ricardo Martins, with “Corre, Corre Corridinho”, won the Award for Best Instrumental Music. This year the theme “RICARDVS” is inscribed, performed together with guitarists Ricardo Gordo and Ricardo Silva.

With a degree in Multimedia and influenced by various musical genres, Ricardo Martins found in Portuguese Guitar a way to express the depth of his feelings. Since the first hearing of songs by Carlos Paredes, the sound of this instrument showed him the musical path to follow.

Although he dedicates himself, mostly, to accompanying Fado, he sees in the Portuguese guitar countless possibilities as a solo instrument, where he has, in fact, stood out.

In 2014 he recorded his first Portuguese instrumental guitar album called “Ricardo J. Martins”. This record project presents, on the one hand, adaptations of themes that are outside the musical environment of the Portuguese Guitar and, on the other hand, versions of typical themes of this instrument, but with their own arrangements. From this disc, the original theme and single “Eira dances".

Always looking for new paths for the instrument, composing and playing – without ever forgetting his roots – in 2017 he edited the second album entitled “chants and laments”. This work has special guest appearances by several musicians and instruments, such as the recorder, accordion, lyrical voice and percussions, bringing different musical experiences to the public, giving this work a unique personal stamp that goes from traditional Portuguese music even classical music.

At just 35 years old, he travels around the world, taking the Portuguese guitar with him. Of the various countries where he plays regularly, Spain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Serbia, England, Germany, Canada, United States of America, China, Ukraine, India and Cape Verde stand out.

He had the privilege of playing with great names from our musical panorama, such as Viviane (Between Aspas), Marco Rodrigues, Filipa Cardoso, Ana Sofia Varela, Ilda Maria and Pedro Jóia.
