The average global occupancy rate per room during the month of April was the best in 23 years, with Easter being a great help, has just announced the Association of Hotels and Touristic Enterprises of the Algarve (AHETA).

The rate was 68,4%, 12,1% above the value verified in 2018.

The markets that most contributed to the increase were the Spanish (+105%), the national (+39,7%) and the British (+9,9%).

Already “the French (-32,0%) and the Dutch (-18,9%) markets were the ones that presented the biggest decreases”, according to AHETA.

But, as the association points out, these results “were influenced by the date of Easter this year, namely the fact that school holidays were in April instead of March”.

Since the beginning of the year, the room occupancy rate has recorded an average increase of 4,2% and the volume of sales increased by 9,0% compared to the same month of the previous year.
