“He is risen as he said! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!". The traditional litany, sung by men, is one of the peculiarities of the Florida Torch Party which will transform, this Easter Sunday, 21st of April, the village of São Brás de Alportel in an immense carpet of flowers.

After a long, late-night marathon, in which hundreds of volunteers throw themselves into the arduous task of preparing
the flowered rugs, the program starts at 9:30. From 10:00 am, Largo de São Sebastião hosts the Easter Flavors Meeting, while the Churchyard of the Igreja Matriz hosts a Crafts Show.

This is also the time when the Eucharist of the Resurrection begins in the Main Church, which precedes the long-awaited Hallelujah Procession, in honor of Jesus Resurrected, which motivates several generations of São Brasenses men to wear the beautiful and original flower torches while they sing the traditional refrain: “He is risen as he said! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!".

In the afternoon, starting at 15 pm, the Churchyard of the Igreja Matriz hosts the Afternoon Cultural, a «moment of lively interaction with the exhibition of handicrafts, sweets and snacks, with the presentation of the winners in another edition of the Floral Games and the competition of most beautiful flowering torches», says the Chamber of São Brás.

There will also be performances by groups: Fole'Percussion, Old Guard Folklore Group and Claudisabel.

According to the municipality, this is "a unique party at national level", being, again, an accessible event.

In this edition, and similarly to what happened in 2018, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, in partnership with Fisio S. Brás and the Casa de Reposo e Saúde de São Brás, adapt a space in the precinct where the Procession of Hallelujah passes. , with logistical support in monitoring, reserving parking areas to provide better conditions for people with disabilities who participate and attend this event.

The festival, whose origins date back to the XNUMXth century, is organized in partnership by the Sambrasense Cultural Association, the Parish of São Brás and the City Council of São Brás de Alportel.
