seven schools of Faro form blue bonds against childhood maltreatment

The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports helped form the blue ribbon at the Joaquim Magalhães school

Blue ties against childhood maltreatment were formed in seven schools at different levels of education in the municipality of Faro, as a way to mark the closing of the “Chuva Azul” campaign, promoted by the Commission for the Protection of Children and Youth (CPCJ) of Faro.

One of the initiatives, which took place in the early afternoon at the EB 2,3 Joaquim Magalhães school, had João Paulo Rebelo, Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, who helped form the blue ribbon of this school, such as the Sul Informação witnessed on the spot.

Before, ties had already been formed in the schools Poeta Emiliano da Costa (Estoi), D. Afonso III, Neves Júnior, João de Deus Secondary and EB/JI of Montenegro. The last initiative took place in the middle of the afternoon at the School of Education and Communication of the University of Algarve.

The Blue Ribbon Campaign began in 1989, in the United States, when Bonnie W. Finney tied a blue ribbon to her car antenna, as a tribute to her two grandchildren, both victims of abuse.

Blue, which symbolizes the color of the injuries, would serve as a constant reminder of his struggle to protect children from violence and neglect.

The story of this grandmother demonstrates the effect that the concern of a single citizen can have in raising public awareness of child abuse, in preventing it and in promoting and protecting their rights.
