Jardim da Alameda hosts “Literary Spring” with Lídia Jorge and João Tordo

Municipality of Faro intends to give new impetus to its historic Book Fair

The event “Spring Literary”, which includes the 43rd Book Fair of Faro, takes place from the 16th to the 19th of May, at Jardim da Alameda, with the presence of Lídia Jorge, João Tordo and Isabel Stilwell.

The Book Fair of Faro it is, therefore, back and renewed, with the presence of renowned writers, literary and musical shows, exhibitions, cinema, workshops and sessions for children.

«The Municipality of Faro intends to give a new impetus to its historic Book Fair, which, together with the literary festival, will present a cultural program of excellence that will bring, for four days, between 10 am and midnight, a new dynamic to that garden», says the Chamber .

The event will present a greater offer of titles and a greater diversity of publications. In addition to national and international titles of great interest to the public, there will be a special offer of children's literature and also the presence of publishers from the Algarve with publications of local interest.

The venue of the event will extend to the Municipal Library of Faro and to the premises of the IPDJ – Portuguese Institute for Sport and Youth. With a diversified program, it will be possible to visit exhibitions, attend book presentations, life interviews and literary and musical shows.

In parallel, «a set of activities for kids and adults guarantees that a visit to the festival will be a moment well spent with the family», says the municipality.

The literary festival will feature the special presence of renowned authors, including Neill Lochery, Lídia Jorge, Dulce Maria Cardoso, Isabel Stilwell and João Tordo.

The music will feature performances by Fernando Leal and Teresa Aleixo, a Farense artist, who will present their latest album of originals live.

A multiple offer for schools, families and children will also have its space in “Primavera Literária”. Authors Susana Jorge, José Pires and Ana Saldanha present sessions for the youngest and for the family. Adelaide Fonseca and Ricardo Coelho present “O Pássaro Escritor” a poetic concert for families, who can also watch the “Bebe MusicoNatura”.

“O Lobo Vegetariano” is one of the sessions that Teatro Bambolina (ASMAL) also presents for schools. They are joined by the interdisciplinary team of the Municipal Library of Faro with the “Hora do Conto” and a set of activities for the younger ones.

In collaboration with the publisher Sul, Sol e Sal, questions will be addressed about the historical research carried out in the South with the presence of researchers Patrícia Palma, Andreia Fidalgo and João Romeiro Chagas Aleixo.

With Europe in sight, visitors can also watch a conversation led by journalist Maria Augusta Casaca, who will talk to a refugee from Yemen, living in Portugal, in an initiative in partnership with the National Center for Support of Migrants.

In this literary festival, there will also be open-air cinema sessions, in partnership with the Cineclube de Faro, a set of collective painting exhibitions, an exhibition by the musician Afonso Cruz and puppet creation workshops. The public will also be surprised by the Booktinder that will challenge them to find that adventure that makes their heart race.

The event also counts on the presence of Paulo Galindro who will perform live illustrations.

The figures from the most popular books will also come to life, strolling through Jardim da Alameda.

“Primavera Literária” will also remember three dates that mark the literary scene in 2019: the 100 years that have passed since the birth of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and Jorge de Sena and the 120 years since the birth of the poet António Aleixo.

At Jardim da Alameda it will also be possible to enjoy street food and a set of space animators.
