Photography exhibition shows the Platibands of Olhão

The platbands from Olhão, captured by the lens of Filipe da Palma, will be on display at the Municipal Museum – Edifício do Compromisso Marítimo, in Olhão, between April 16th and June 4th. The opening of the exhibition, on April 16, is scheduled for 17:00.

Filipe da Palma is a photographer and, «in his visual repertoire, one can identify a series of images related to the Algarve's cultural heritage, in its cultural landscape, built and immaterial heritage aspect», explains the Câmara de Olhão.

In the Cubist city, Filipe da Palma «registered countless platbands and, in detail, their ornamentation, made with coating mortars that, despite their decorative function, also served to protect the masonry».

Intervening in the composition of the urban and rural landscape, the polychromatic platbands that populate traditional architecture in Olhão «are original and unique treasures, made in the recent past, which can now be seen in the Municipal Museum through the eyes of Filipe da Palma», he concludes. the autarchy.

This is an initiative within the scope of the International Day of Monuments and Sites, which is marked on April 18th.
