The finalists from the Algarve for the National Reading Competition are selected [with photos]

Albufeira hosted the intercity phase of the competition

The eight finalists from the Algarve in the 13th National Reading Competition are already known. The Algarve's inter-municipal phase of this competition took place this Tuesday at the Municipal Auditorium in Albufeira and representatives of the region came out in the final of the competition, which will take place in Braga, on the 25th of May.

Daniel Alves, from EB1 Ferradeira (Faro) and Riana Pereira, from EB Horta do Carmo (Tavira) were the students from the 1st cycle to the final. From the 2nd cycle, Maria Inês Lima from EB2,3 Padre Cabanita (Loulé) and Dana Pérez, from Escola Infante D. Fernando in Vila Nova de Cacela (Vila Real de Santo António) were selected.

With regard to 3rd cycle students, those selected were, in 1st place, Lia Silva, from EB2,3 of Montenegro (Faro) and, in 2nd, Henrique Monteiro, from EB Integrada de Paderne (Albufeira).

The secondary school students who will be present at the final are Lourenço Albuquerque, from Loulé Secondary School, and João Bazelga, from Albufeira Basic and Secondary School.

In all, 76 students from the 1st cycle to secondary education, representatives of 10 municipalities in the Algarve, participated in the competition, in the inter-municipal final: Alcoutim, Albufeira, Castro Marim, Faro, Loulé, Monchique, Olhão, Portimão, Tavira and VRSA.

Of these, 16 competed in the Stage Test, from which the eight national finalists came out.

 

 

«This Intermunicipal Phase was characterized by a great spirit of support to the students, with a very lively room full of young students, teachers and parents. With a presentation by the Albufeira singer Filipa Sousa, the afternoon also featured cultural moments: the young Fábio Vernuccio, a student at EBSA – Albufeira Basic and Secondary School, performed two violin pieces and Luísa Monteiro read “Apontamento” by Álvaro de Campos» , described the Town Hall of Albufeira.

The jury was composed by the director and actor from ACTA, Luís Vicente, by the coordinator of the UALG Library, Salomé Horta and by the writer and director, Luísa Monteiro. At the awards ceremony were Paulo Freitas, President of the Municipal Assembly of Albufeira, Ana Pífaro, Councilor for Culture at the Albufeira City Council and on behalf of DGLAB, the deputy director, Luís Santos and Rosa Domingues.

At the end of this afternoon of reading, all participants were presented with various offers from the Municipality, namely, gifts, books and publications.

This competition is promoted within the scope of the National Reading Plan in collaboration with the General Directorate of Books, Archives and Libraries (DGLAB) and RBE – School Libraries Network and consists of two tests: one written, which determines those who pass the test next, which is oral and is called Stage Test, in which students read a poem and present a book.
