88 classes from the municipality of Olhão participated in the activity

More than 2000 people formed a Blue Human Bond this Tuesday morning at the Municipal Stadium of Olhão, culminating the Month for the Prevention of Child and Youth Abuse, which, throughout the country, recalls the collective responsibility for the prevention of abuse. mistreatment.

The awareness-raising action, to which the Municipality of Olhão was associated, had 88 groups from the municipality, as well as numerous IPSS, associations, firefighters and security forces.

With this activity, the organization intended, once again, to make visible the common interest and joint effort of the municipality's institutions in relation to the problem of maltreatment in children and youth, and to inform and raise awareness in the community about its role in its prevention.

On the occasion, which was attended by the mayor António Miguel Pina and the rest of the council, the mayor underlined “the role of everyone as a community, as well as schools, educators and security forces”, in the fight against “this scourge that if it continues to be verified”.

The Blue Ribbon Campaign began in 1989, in the United States, when Bonnie W. Finney tied a blue ribbon to her car antenna, as a tribute to her two grandchildren, both victims of abuse.

Blue, which symbolizes the color of the injuries, would serve as a constant reminder of his struggle to protect children from violence and neglect.

The story of this grandmother demonstrates the effect that the concern of a single citizen can have in raising public awareness of child abuse, in preventing it and in promoting and protecting their rights.
