Portimão Photographic Race returns to its origins with a 24-hour edition…and a 12-hour edition

This year, there will again be a 24-hour version, in addition to the regular 12-hour race

The 19th Photographic Race of Portimão, part of the Museum's 11th anniversary commemorations, is scheduled for the 17th and 18th of May and proposes a 24-hour special edition, night and day, between 21 pm, on May 00th, and 17:21 pm, the next day. There will also be the usual 00-hour Photo Race, taking place between 12:9 and 00:21, on the 00th.

Interested parties will be able to enroll in the “Special 24 Hours” option or in the “12 Hours” option. The “special 24 Hours” test will start on the evening of Friday, May 17, at 21:00 pm, at the reception of the Portimão Museum, while the “12 Hours” event will open at the same place, but at 9:00 am on Saturday , on the 18th. There, a breakfast will be offered to all participants of the two competitions.

Both will also end at 21 pm on Saturday, at the same starting point.

Participants in the “24-hour Special” will receive the “Passport” of the 21th Photographic Race at 00 pm, as well as information on the first subjects to photograph and the location of the next checkpoint at midnight. The second checkpoint will only be at 19:24 am, on the morning of the 00th, in a place also to be indicated during the race.

In the Photographic Race, the most important event of its kind south of the Tagus, competitors have the opportunity to discover the geographical space of the parishes of Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, through a renewed and updated look at their cultural and natural heritage, about activities and experiences of their communities.

Awards and exhibition

The best sets of images will be awarded four prizes in photographic material and equipment of different values. The first place in the day mode (Race 12 Hours) will receive 500 euros, the second best 300 euros, the third 200 euros and the fourth 100 euros. Regarding the 24 Hour Special Race, the first place will receive 600 euros, the second best 400 euros, the third 300 euros and the fourth 200 euros.

In the “12 Hours” Race, a Youth Award (from 12 to 18 years old) will also be awarded, in the amount of 300 euros, converted into courses and/or training, in the area of ​​graphic design and digital image (photography or video). at ETIC Algarve, plus a prize converted into photographic material and equipment worth 100 euros in the “Especial 24 Horas” Race.

The winning works and the best photographs of each theme will be part of the collective exhibition to be held at the Museu de Portimão, in the last quarter of 2019.
