Aljezur hosts 13th Meeting of Algarve Genealogists

The 2019 meeting has the participation of Maria Luísa Pereira, director of the District Archives of Faro, who organizes it in his homeland, Aljezur.

The 13th Meeting of Algarve Genealogists will take place in Aljezur, on the 4th of May.

The meeting starts at 10:00 am, with the arrival of the participants at Largo do Mercado, next to the bridge, after which it will be followed by a guided visit to the Association for the Defense of the Historical and Archaeological Heritage of Aljezur, the Municipal Museum, Museum of Sacred Art and Antonian Museum. After the visits, there is a convivial lunch.

In the afternoon, the presentation of communications will be made in the meeting room of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Aljezur (Lar Nossa Senhora d'Alva).

The Algarve genealogist meetings are informal meetings, which take place annually in an Algarve location, and where participants are interested in researching the history of their families with roots in the Algarve.

During the meetings, participants share information among themselves about their research, as well as presentations on topics investigated within the scope of genealogy, heraldry, history and local traditions and documental sources in the Algarve are presented.

The first meeting took place in Loulé in 2007 and since then they have taken place in Tavira (2008), Portimão (2009), Faro (2010), Castro Marim (2011), Monchique (2012), Moncarapacho (2013), Alvor (2014), Alcoutim (2015), Silves (2016), São Brás de Alportel (2017) and Querença (2018).

Given the informal nature of these meetings, the organization has had the participation of researchers from various parts of the Algarve, with special emphasis on genealogists José Cabecinha, Óscar Caeiro Pinto, Júlio de Sousa, Nuno Campos Inácio, Rui Pereira, Maria Manuel Pereira and Maria Elisa Florêncio, among others.
