8th Congress of Educating Cities brings together politicians, technicians and academics in Lagoa

About fifty educating Cities have already confirmed their presence

The Portuguese Educating Cities will meet in Congress, between the 15th and 18th of May, at the Centro de Congressos do Arade, in Lagoa.

Of the nearly eight dozen Portuguese educating cities, around fifty have already confirmed that they will participate and present their educational experiences at the Lagoa Congress.

In parallel, about a dozen communications from various Portuguese universities have already been confirmed, with full representation of the Higher Education institutions present in the Algarve, namely the University of Algarve, Universidade Aberta and ISMAT – Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes, to which the University of Évora also joins.

Another novelty of the 8th Congress of Educating Cities is the special participation of a large group of young people from all over the country, invited by the various Educating Municipalities.

Nearly 40 young people come to Lagoa «to be challenged to build, together, concrete proposals for the Educating City in the municipalities where they live», stresses the Câmara de Lagoa, in a press release.

The program of this Congress proposes to deal with three different levels, but which, when combined, are responsible for the reality of our cities: the political, technical and academic research levels.

The two tables of mayors, scheduled for the 15th and 17th of May, will promote debate between political leaders from several Portuguese educating cities and will be moderated by two journalists.

Among the several renowned speakers, already confirmed, stand out Carlos Fortuna, PhD in Sociology, Full Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra and Permanent Researcher at the Center for Social Studies, Jacqueline Moll, PhD in Education and Professor at the Federal University from Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil and also Paulo Dias, PhD in Education, full professor and dean of the Universidade Aberta.
