Secondaries of Faro, Portimão and Quarteira represent Algarve in the final of the Youth Parliament

Final session is scheduled for 20th and 21st of May, at the Parliament, in Lisbon

The Pinheiro and Rosa Secondary Schools, from Faro, Drª Laura Ayres, from Quarteira, and Manuel Teixeira Gomes, from Portimão were the winners of the regional final of the Youth Parliament and will now represent the Algarve in the national session, scheduled for 20 and 21 May, at the Portuguese Parliament, in Lisbon .

The Algarve will be represented by the young deputies elected in the regional final: Sofia Solayman and Bruno Correia, from the Pinheiro e Rosa Secondary School, Edgar Guerreiro do Carmo and Ivo Duarte Fernandes, from the Drª Laura Ayres Secondary School, and Pedro Filipe Duarte (district spokesperson in Faro) and Inês Sofia Vilela, from Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School.

The regional session was attended by around 60 young deputies, representing 14 schools in the Algarve: Colégio Internacional de Vilamoura; Albufeira Basic and Secondary School; Nobel International School Algarve – Lagoa, Cândido Guerreiro Professional School – CIPRL, ​​Alte – Loulé; Loulé Secondary School; José Belchior Viegas Secondary School – S. Brás de Alportel; Dr. Francisco Fernandes Lopes Secondary School – Olhão; Dr. Jorge Augusto Correia Secondary School – Tavira; Drª Laura Ayres Secondary School – Quarteira; João de Deus Secondary School – Faro, Manuel Teixeira Gomes Secondary School – Portimão; Padre António Martins de Oliveira Secondary School – Lagoa, Pinheiro e Rosa Secondary School – Faro, Tomás Cabreira Secondary School – Faro.

The young deputies debated the theme chosen by the Assembly of the Republic for this year's edition of the program, “Climate change: reversing global warming”, and approved a set of measures that they want to be taken into account by the Assembly of the Republic.

According to the IPDJ delegation, «once again, young people from the Algarve have shown a great capacity for intervention, reflection and a critical spirit in defending their ideas, already denoting an appreciable maturity».

The District Session, which was attended by the regional director of the Algarve of the IPDJ, Custódio Moreno, the councilor of the Chamber of Faro Carlos Baía, the president of CCDR Algarve, Francisco Serra, and Ilda Silva, head of the Multidisciplinary Team of the Algarve Region Services Directorate – DGESTE, also had the participation of the deputy of the Assembly of the Republic, Luís Graça, who, at the beginning of the session, he answered questions posed by young deputies about the attributions and functioning of the National Parliament.
