Portugal takes 10th in the Algarve Cup after defeat by Iceland

Heavy defeat in farewell to the Algarve Cup

The women's national football team ended its participation in the Algarve Cup with a defeat, this Wednesday, March 6, by 1-4 against Iceland, taking 10th place in the tournament.

In a game played at the Municipal Stadium of Bela Vista, in Parchal (Lagoa), the Icelanders were the first to score, after 2 minutes, by Agla Albertsdottir. At 37′ came another goal for Iceland, scored by Selma Magnusdottir.

Portugal still reduced, on 88 minutes, through Mónica Mendes, but Iceland would score again twice: Margret Vidarsdottir (89′) and Svava Gudmundsdottir (90′).

With this victory, Iceland reached the 9th place in the tournament. As for Portugal, they came in 10th, beating Sweden 2-1 in the group stage and losing to Switzerland 3-1.
