Quarteira Parish Council gave reusable bottles to employees

Initiative served to mark World Water Day

This Friday, March 22, the Quarteira Parish Council offered reusable bottles to employees and collaborators, thus encouraging the reduction in the use of plastic and the consumption of tap water.

The action took place at the Autárquico Center, within the scope of World Water Day.

"In addition to promoting the replacement of bottled water with tap water as a more ecological, economic and accessible option, the initiative also aimed to sensitize the Board's workers to adopt more conscientious consumption habits, through their awareness of the environmental problems that plague our planet, including the excessive use of disposable plastic», says the municipality.

"It is our concern to permanently monitor the environmental theme, developing contributions such as this initiative that aims to help reduce the production of plastic", emphasizes Telmo Pinto, president of the Parish Council of Quarteira, also pointing out the aspect of the campaign inherent to the rational use of water . A problem that, he stresses, must be recognized by the entire world population.

“It is estimated that only 0,5% of the existing water is drinkable. We cannot ignore this reality as it is an essential resource for life with an inestimable value. We owe its preservation to future generations, in order to guarantee its existence, and this is an obligation that must be assumed by all of us», observes Telmo Pinto.

Created by the General Assembly of the United Nations, World Water Day aims to promote reflection and discussion on the relationship between man and water, addressing issues such as conservation and protection, correct development of water resources and measures to solve problems related to pollution.

In addition to this initiative in Quarteira, the Municipality of Loulé carried out a series of actions for the efficient use of water, within the scope of the new campaign “Aquimos da Água” (We Take Care of Water).
