Olhão, Júlio Resende, will present his latest work “at home” in a concert scheduled for this Friday, March 8, at 21 pm, at the Municipal Auditorium of Olhão.

Júlio Resende brings to his hometown his new album “Cinderella Cyborg” which, in declarations to Musicália – Sul Informação, describes as “an attempt to create a kind of fable between man and machine”. This is a feature that the pianist wants to recreate on stage.

According to the musician, in this concert, there will be «a dialogue between the piano, the double bass, the drums and the computers, which will also be there».

Despite the clear musical predominance of the piano, Júlio Resende will not be alone on stage, quite the contrary.

Musically, the songs on the disc are presented, «with the right to improvisations», – revealing their more jazzy side – and that make each performance unique. The show will still be enriched with the presence of a rapper, «who participates a lot in the concert and who brings an unexpected and vocal dimension to the concert», reveals Julio Resende.

The voice complements the other instruments in “Cinderella Cyborg”, giving it a more human dimension, not least because “a rapper is a kind of instrumentalist of the voice. The way of saying the words is super articulated, it reminds one of the language of the bebop, from jazz. Rappers are people full of rhythm. It fits very well there and I think people will feel that fit», stresses the pianist

Adapting what was done in the studio to the stage was easier than it may seem, since the album was recorded together, as if it were a concert.

"The intention was to create a type of organism that had the two things together, like a Cyborg: a man and a machine, at the same time, and where the machine helps man to be more capable." A fusion that was already possible to feel on the record, with the junction between an organic complement and the coldness, often transmitted by the sound of the machines.

The reactions to “Cinderella Cyborg” surprised the musician. Being an instrumental piano record (with the exception of two or three songs with a vocal complement), it managed to receive a lot of attention by the media and also the response from the public was something unexpected.

«People have been buying, offering to others, sending me messages… I was happy with the final reaction and with the attention that the album has received», says Júlio Resende.

At the end of January, the musician from Olhano was elected as Personal of the Year in the South 2019 by the opinion site Lugar ao Sul, for having cemented, in 2018, its position as one of the great musicians of the new generation of the national cultural scene and for having managed to impose its mark on a country that still lives deeply centralized. The distinction took the musician by surprise, even more than the reaction to the record.

“It was a special award, coming from my region, but there were many more people who deserved to receive it. I'm going to take advantage of this concert, give my best, also to thank this distinction».

Júlio Resende is accompanied on stage by Pedro Segundo (drums), André Nascimento (Electronics), André Rosinha (Bass) and Sam Azura (Rap). There are few tickets available for this concert, which cost 13 euros.

Ana(Grama) is the last single released for “Cinderella Cyborg” which, according to the musician, “is a love story, which, like an anagram, should be read in the same way from beginning to end and vice versa, that is, to be good both at the beginning and at the end».
