DG Arts 2020/21 Biennial Competitions open on 28 March

"This is the first time that the Biennial Competitions open in March", stresses the Ministry of Culture

The Biennial Competitions, promoted by the Directorate General for the Arts, will open on the 28th of March, Thursday, with a total available budget of 18,6 million euros, which represents an increase of two million euros for the next ones. two years, compared to the last amount to be tendered.
 
The Ministry of Culture stresses that "this is the first time that the Biennial Competitions open in March".

This "anticipation of the calendar in several months will enable the structures to know the final results in September 2019, which will allow them to prepare in a timely manner and in a framework of greater stability for the activity for the next two years", adds that Ministry in a note sent to the editorial offices.
 
In this competition, the tutelage chose to separate two major domains: Creation and Programming. Thus, while the Programming domain will only be the object of a competition, the Creation support domain will be the object of six opening notices relating to each of the artistic areas in the competition: Visual Arts; Contemporary Circus and Street Arts, Disciplinary Crossings; Dance; Song; Theater.
 
Of the overall amount of support for the next biennium, the domain of creation will have 70% and the domain of programming 30%. 
 
Regarding the distribution of support amounts by regions, it is ensured that "no region can absorb more than 40% of the global annual amount available, with the exception of the areas of Visual Arts and Contemporary Circus and Street Arts".
 
For the domain of Programming, the minimum amounts to be guaranteed annually by region are the following: 40 thousand for the Autonomous Region of the Azores and 40 thousand for the Autonomous Region of Madeira. 150 thousand euros for the Algarve and another 150 thousand euros for the Alentejo. The Metropolitan Area of ​​Lisbon receives 400 euros, 400 euros for the Center and 400 euros for the North.
 
For the domain of Creation, there is a division by artistic areas – Visual Arts, Contemporary Circus and Street Arts, Disciplinary Crossings, Dance, Music, Theater.

In addition, tendering procedures ensure that, with eligible entities, no region can fail to be represented. The areas of Visual Arts and Contemporary Circus and Street Arts are excluded for this criterion.
