The theater play “Banda Sonora”, staged by Ricardo Neves-Neves and music by pianist and composer Filipe Raposo, has sessions scheduled for this Friday, March 29, and Saturday, 30, at 21 pm, at the Cine- Louletano Theater.

This was «one of the most acclaimed plays presented in Portugal in 2018», according to the Câmara de Loulé, and is now premiering in the south of the country.

«In a surprising scenic device, with a forest on stage and an orchestra in the background, on the mountain, playing live, the two creators present an unusual and surprising show, in which the music followed the writing and vice versa, putting it on stage a universe of childish perversity interpreted by three pairs of actress-singers, accompanied by the Orquestra Académica Metropolitana directed by conductor Cesário Costa», explains the municipality.

This is «a text loaded with metaphors, set in a forest of more or less traditional tales, with songs and songs to match».

In a forest of terror live three orphaned girls, aged 8, 12 and 16: the first macrocephalous and full of scientific curiosity, the second obsessed with social rules and daughters of a Mesopotamian king and the third so bulky that they sentenced their mother's death with your birth.

“There are three girls with six voices. The three pairs of actresses, with physical and timbral similarities, populate the stage in a universe linked to horror cinema and the darker traditional children's tales».

Between the nonsense, the delirium and the extravagant innocence, in a strong connection to a musical, rhythmic and polyphonic essence, we traverse a path through the forest from the dissection of frogs to the secret introduction to smoking.

The renowned critic Augusto M. Seabra wrote that this is a «brilliant spectacle», an «absolute confirmation, should the need still exist, of the creative singularity of Ricardo Neves-Neves, here in an exemplary partnership with the composer Filipe Raposo. Without a doubt, a landmark of musical theater on Portuguese stages».

Ricardo Neves-Neves' creative ferocity is underlined, taken to an unprecedented point: the girl is orphaned by her mother, who died in childbirth, and the story continues until her father's death.

«Allied to this the portentous visual delirium (the scenography is signed by Henrique Ralheta, the costumes are the responsibility of Rafaela Mapri and the characterization was done by Cidália Espadinha) of a figurative universe that reminds Tim Burton, as well as a remarkable level of formal refinement when it comes to interpretation (vocal direction is by João Henriques)».

“Banda Sonora” is a co-production: Teatro do Eléctrico, Cine-Teatro Louletano and São Luiz Teatro Municipal.

Tickets cost 9 euros, going to 7 euros for adults over 65 and under 30 (the Friend Card is applicable), with the show lasting 60 minutes and aimed at people over 14 years of age.
