“Palmira, Queen of the Desert” is the star of a new exhibition in Tavira

Palmira is an ancient city located in central Syria, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The exhibition “Palmira, Queen of the Desert”, by photographer Luís Reina, opens on March 9th, at 16 pm, at the Islamic Center of the Municipal Museum of Tavira, and remains on display until September 00st.

This exhibition works as a photographic trip to Palmira, an ancient city located in the center of Syria, classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1980), and considered as one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. However, the war in Syria caused profound damage to this archaeological site.

The exhibition also includes the presence of sculptures by the Porto artist Manuel Ribeiro, in order to make «a contemporary reconstruction of this Syrian archaeological site».

The images are subtitled in Portuguese and English, being contextualized by a video explaining the author's trip to Syria, in 2007.
